One of the Google docs add-ons that I like to use is the Easy Bib bibliography creator. I used to write papers with Microsoft word on my laptop. I would have a separate browser window open to research and another window up so I could create my bibliography. It was a hassle to make my bibliography, export it, update the formatting, and then add it on to the end of my paper. Instead, I can be in Google docs and do everything at once. By using the research tool in Google docs it helps you search for sources on the internet while still being able to see your paper. Once I find a source to use I put the URL right into the Easy Bib add-on. The add-on works just like the normal Easy Bib website except it is connected to your paper. When the sources are in there, they are saved and you can continue to add more sources to your bibliography. Finally, when you are done researching and you have all of the sources in the Easy Bib add-on, you can add the bibliography to the end of your paper with a touch of a button.
Kahoot is one of the now plentiful tools to take assessments of students. This tool in particular allows students to use their cell phones or other devices to answer questions that the teacher presents to them. The teacher can present the class with a “quiz” or a list of questions that the students can then answer. The teacher can go into Kahoot and create a quiz for their students. First you put in a question then you can upload a picture, put in multiple choice answers. Kahoot presents the quiz as a fun interactive game. It will actually show a leader board so students can compete with one another. Another feature of Kahoot is where students can also create questions for their fellow classmates to answer. An advantage of Kahoot is that there are already thousands of premade quizzes for every subject imaginable to use. Once the quiz is done the results of the students answers are compiled into a worksheet for the teacher to use to assess what questions the students had problems with. The last thing about Kahoo is, it’s free! Here is a tutorial link for some of the features of Kahoot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mRzrjbM6aw
One of the technology models that I plan to apply to my classes in the future would be the SAMR model. By implementing more useful and innovative technology into the classroom the students will become more involved and will learn more. Since technology is such an integral part of students’ lives today we as teachers should capitalize on it and us students’ interest and knowledge of technology in a creative way. This would require teachers to become more creative as well. Instead of just substituting the technology like using Google Doc to write a paper, the teacher has to come up with more creative assignments that will augment, modify, or redefine the assignment.
This semester will be my fourth year at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. My main goal for this semester is to progress one step closer to my career as an educator. There are several reasons why I wanted to go into education. The first reason was that I wanted to give back to the community in a way that is irreplaceable. The education that you receive in grade school is the foundation for all other learning throughout one’s life. I simply want to pass on some for my knowledge and experiences to benefit others, to inspire students to become lifelong learners. Next semester I will be pre-student teaching so right now I am trying to learn all I can and getting prepared to wind down my undergraduate college career.
I plan on using this blog as a record of sorts for my different educational experiences. For example, I will be going to Peru this coming summer and i would like to share the experience that I will gain on this trip. While on this trip our group will be entering the Peruvian school districts to observe their different teaching styles, and classroom management. I would like to share this experience with others. |
